Oxlip is found in the wild in the SE of England and is an indicator of ancient woodland. It prefers open glades and clay soils. The flowers are a similar height to Cowslip but are pale yellow, which contrast well with the dark green foliage.

It is the county flower of Suffolk. Also it has been used for its medicinal qualities as a cough remedy
