October Ox eye daisies against an Autumn sky.
What a cheerful sight and we’re pleased to have left this little area at the end of the nursery.!
Ox eye daisies are robust, generally quick to grow and often speedy to establish in a wildflower area before other wildflowers get off the mark.
Over time however, other species will catch up and with some management, the area will balance with a more varied mix of wildflowers.
Ox eye daisies are super for wildlife with the yellow centre being rich in nectar. So to have a nectar source late in the year with this longevity of flowering is great to continue supporting wildlife for as many months as possible. Highlighted by the Autumn sun there are still a few little Sea thrift flowers to be found in protected coastal areas 🌸
Looking closely, each little head is a delicate cluster.
Naturally found on cliffs and coasts Thrift has nectar rich flowers and during its main flowering time of May -July it provides a fabulous haven for bees and other insects .

It’s that time of year when the Teasel heads look striking in the Autumn sun .
We love growing Teasels - they are great in the garden for wildlife and they look great too.
Bees are drawn to them late Summer when in bloom whilst in Autumn birds feed off their seeds.
In winter they can be left as foliage to creat a frosty focal point or dried for indoor arrangements .
